Greater Worcester gasoline prices have remained relatively steady so far in 2023.

The average price for a gallon of gas in the Worcester area was $3.10 per gallon of regular unleaded on Tuesday, 2 cents higher than the price of $3.08 seen a week ago but 3 cents lower than the price of $3.13 seen on Jan. 6, according to data released by the Florida-based not-for-profit American Automobile Association.

“We are in that time of year when pump prices begin to heat up, usually peaking around July,” Mary Maguire, vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a release issued Monday. “But unless there’s a shock to the global oil market that causes prices to spike, the national average for a gallon of gas will probably stagger higher, with some flat days or even small price dips along the way.”

AAA’s Monday survey of gas prices across the country saw an average price of $3.14, which is 4 cents higher than the price of $3.10 seen last week.

The average price in Massachusetts was $3.14 on Monday, 3 cents higher than last week’s average.

AAA attributed the slight increase in prices to growing demand, noting Massachusetts and the country’s average price rose despite a drop in oil prices. Crude oil futures declined from $76.74 on Feb. 1 to $72.38 on Monday, according to New York Mercantile Exchange data.
