Collaborative workspaces in Worcester and Fitchburg took in $200,000 in funding announced Thursday by the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration.
HUB 35, a proposed workspace and commercial kitchen in downtown Fitchburg now renamed Urban Fork, received $160,000, which will help buy equipment and build out the space, according to the Baker Administration, which announced the funding to 31 Massachusetts organizations at a Thursday morning ceremony in Worcester.
Two Worcester spaces also funding: $25,000 to WorcLab, formerly the Worcester CleanTech Incubator, and the Worcester Public Library Foundation, which received $15,000.
WorcLab, which is located in the Printers Building on Portland Street, will use its funding to remove a wall to create a more open layout and to furnish the space with equipment and partitions. The library foundation has proposed a Worcester Public Innovation Center, a flexible so-called maker space providing resources, tools, and technology for community-based learning, problem solving, collaboration, and engagement in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The foundation will use the grant to buy a laser cutter and 3D printer.
In all, the Collaborative Workspace Program grants, which are administered by MassDevelopment, totaled nearly $1.9 million for organizations in 22 communities.
