Worcester and Fitchburg have received just over $1 million in Transformative Development Initiative Equity grants for their respective neighborhood revitalization efforts.
Worcester’s Main South Community Development Corp. was awarded $950,000 for the construction of a new building featuring commercial space at a vacant lot on Main Street, according to a Thursday press release from MassDevelopment, who provided the grants.
Located at 807-815 Main St., which has been a vacant lot for 30 years, the building will include seven affordable lease-to-own storefront units ranging from 1,200 and 1,700 square feet. The new building is set to be completed by 2023, per MassDevelopment’s release.
An affiliate of Fitchburg-based Elite Construction & Design, Inc. received a $75,000 grant for the rehabilitation of 409 Main St., a highly visible building, which has been vacant for 13 years. The firm plans to add a commercial storefront on the ground floor with four apartments on the upper floors.
