Worcester, Fitchburg Land Conservation Funds

The state has awarded $85,000 to the Greater Worcester Land Trust to protect 13.4 acres of land off Green Hill Park as part of a $602,525 package of Conservation Partnership Grants given to groups across the state.

The land, along Trinity Ave. near the northeast corner of the park, will be used for water resource protection, habitat conservation and public recreation. The grant also helps connect an urban trail corridor from the park to downtown Worcester and Lake Quinsigamond.

Also receiving funding in Central Massachusetts is a 6.7-acre area in Fitchburg. The state is providing $70,125 to the North County Land Trust to protect a section of wooded hillside that overlooks Gateway Park along the Nashua River.
