Worcester, Fitchburg Health Centers Win U.S. Grants

Nearly $5.4 million will be pumped into community health centers in Worcester and Fitchburg to help make improvements to facilities.

The money comes from the latest round of federal funding delivered to Massachusetts from the health care reform law, which totals $33.7 million.
The money will be awarded to 11 community health centers across the state through two capital programs, the Building Capacity Grant and Immediate Facility Improvements Program.

Family Health Center of Worcester Inc. will receive $5 million under the Building Capacity Grant Program, while Community Health Connections Inc. in Fitchburg will get $396,344 under the Immediate Facility Improvements Program.

An announcement from Sen. John Kerry along with U.S. Reps.  John Olver, Richard Neal and James McGovern, said funding will go toward longer-term projects that will expand facilities, improve existing services and serve more patients, in addition to addressing pressing facility and equipment needs.
