The Worcester and Fitchburg areas were among the 12 state labor markets to add jobs in October as unemployment rates dipped compared to September and a year ago, according to the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
Statewide, the October unemployment rate fell to 7.7 percent from 8 percent in September. A year ago, the unemployment rate was 8.7 percent.
In Worcester, the jobless rate fell to 8.3 percent from 8.8 percent in September and 9.3 percent the previous year.
The Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner labor market ended the month with a 10-percent jobless rate compared to 10.5 percent a month earlier and 11 percent a year ago.
Unemployment rates were lower in 18 of the state's 22 labor markets. The state added 10,000 jobs in October and has added 47,900 since last December.
