Exports from the Worcester Metropolitan area are up more than 54 percent since 2009, according to the latest report from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The International Trade Administration’s 2015 Metropolitan Area Export Overview found that goods exported from the Worcester Metropolitan area -- that covers part of Connecticut -- totaled $3.1 billion last year. This represents an increase of $18 million from 2014 and $1.1 billion from 2009.
“These export numbers show that businesses continue to "Make locally, and sell globally,' in Worcester,” Jim Paul, Director of the U.S. Commercial Service in Boston, said in a statement. “The growth in area metro exports demonstrate that there’s every incentive to pursue export opportunities.
According to the organization, key merchandise export categories included chemicals; computer and electronic products; and machinery.
