Webster Square Dental Care, a Worcester dental office, improperly billed patients for about $247,000, the state auditor's office said.
The Worcester office, along with Sawan & Sawan in Framingham and another office in Lawrence, allegedly wrongly billed for a type of X-ray known as dental periapical radiographs, according to the office of State Auditor Suzanne Bump.
Webster Square Dental Care improperly billed about 7,700 MassHealth patients, Bump said. That totals 55 percent of the office's billing claims from July 2010 to June 2015, the period for which the auditor's office reviewed billing.
The state conducted audits of dental offices as part of an ongoing review of MassHealth, the state's Medicaid and children's health insurance program.
Webster Square, which is owned by Dr. Kenny Lam, also has an office in Fitchburg. The office was not immediately able to comment when reached Tuesday morning.
