Worcester County unemployment drops to lowest rate since April 2019

The Worcester County unemployment rate in November dropped two tenths of a percentage point from October to 3%, the lowest rate since April 2019, according to data released Tuesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The statewide unemployment rate for November, which was released on Friday, was 2.9%. Among Massachusetts counties, Worcester County ranked sixth, tied with Plymouth County.

In November, the Leominster-Gardner area saw the largest percentage increase in jobs in the state, gaining 600 jobs (1.1%) since October, and 2,400 (4.7%) year over year. 

The Boston-Cambridge-Nashua area was second, gaining 13,800 jobs in November, a 0.5% increase since October.

In the other Central Massachusetts regions, the Worcester metropolitan area gained 300 jobs (0.1%) and the Framingham sub-area gained 1,100 jobs (0.7%) from October to November.

For unemployment rates, the Framingham sub-area dropped three-tenths of a percentage point to 2.2% in November, the second lowest in the state behind the Nashua New Hampshire sub-area. The Leominster-Gardner area saw its unemployment rate drop by one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.4% in November. The Worcester metropolitan area was 3.0%.

The data is not seasonally adjusted.
