Worcester County surpasses 12K coronavirus cases Tuesday

Worcester County had a reported 23 new coronavirus cases and six deaths Tuesday, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The new cases in Worcester County bring the total to 12,014 since the pandemic began. That tally exceeds that of 18 entire states, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Statewide, cases increased Tuesday to 105,893 with 195 new probable and confirmed cases. Of those, there were 140 confirmed and 55 probable new cases.

New daily coronavirus fatalities in the state continue to decline with 18 new deaths Tuesday. The new deaths follow Monday's 23 fatalities and Sunday's 48, bringing the overall death toll to 7,665 in the state. Throughout Worcester County, the new deaths bring the total to 877.

DPH reported on Tuesday another 7,270 coronavirus tests were administered.

As of June 11, the city of Worcester has had a reported 5,068 coronavirus cases. The next report by the city will be made on Thursday.

UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester reports 44 suspected and confirmed inpatients and 17 in the ICU. Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester reports 21 inpatients and six in intensive care.

MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Natick reports 24 suspected and confirmed cases, and Milford Regional Medical Center reported 11. In total, the hospitals recorded nine suspected or confirmed cases in the ICU. Heywood Hospital and HealthAlliance report 15 total suspected and confirmed cases and two in intensive care.

Nationally, there are more than 2.1 million coronavirus cases and 116,964 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, case numbers are above 8.1 million with 444,426 deaths.
