Worcester County had a reported seven more coronavirus deaths Friday, along with 217 new cases — both new highs for the region during the pandemic.
Those new totals from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health bring Worcester County's death total to 38 and its total number of cases to 1,678, the latter number a one-day increase of 15%.
The city of Worcester also set a new single-day mark of 111 new cases, which doubled its previous high. The city now has 593 positive cases.
Saint Vincent Hospital and UMass Memorial Health Care have a combined 143 positive inpatient cases and 51 in intensive care, according to the city.
Statewide, 96 new deaths were reported for a total of 599. The total number of cases has hit 20,974, an increase of 2,033, or 11%.
The seven new Worcester County deaths include a woman over 100, two women in their 90s, a male and a female in their 80s, a man in his 70s and a man in his 60s. In three of the cases, the Department of Health said the victim had pre-existing conditions, with the other four unknown.
As for testing, 7,414 new tests conducted for a total of 102,372 statewide.
Nationwide cases have surpassed 485,000, with more than 18,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Worldwide, cases are approaching 1.7 million with more than 101,000 deaths.
