Worcester County records 49 new coronavirus cases and two deaths Tuesday

Worcester County recorded 49 new coronavirus cases and two fatalities Tuesday, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The new cases add to the 12,192 total in the county since the beginning of the pandemic. Statewide, there were 229 new probable and confirmed coronavirus cases bringing the total to 107,447. In comparison, there were 182 confirmed and 47 probable cases.

Throughout Massachusetts, there were 16 newly recorded fatalities adding to the death toll of 7,890. Worcester County recorded two new deaths with 905 overall. 

DPH reported 8,253 newly administered coronavirus tests on Tuesday. 

The City of Worcester reported 47 new coronavirus cases last Thursday, bringing the total to 5,115. The city’s next update will be on Thursday.

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester reported 32 inpatients and 11 in the intensive care unit. Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester reported 23 inpatients and four in intensive care.

MetroWest Medical Center in Natick and Framingham reported 30 suspected and confirmed cases, and Milford Regional Medical Center reported nine. In total the hospitals report four suspected and confirmed cases in the ICU. Other Central Massachusetts hospitals such as Heywood Hospital in Gardner and UMass Memorial HealthAlliance in Leominster report 10 suspected and confirmed cases and four in intensive care. 

Nationally, there are more than 2.3 million cases and 121,225 coronavirus fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, coronavirus cases exceed 9.2 million with 478,160 deaths.
