The median price of a single-family home in Worcester County shot up in September as home sales continued their slump.
The median price for a single-family home sold in Worcester County was $445,000, compared with $405,000 in September 2022, a 10% jump. The statewide increase was 2.7%, according to a Monday press release from Peabody-based research firm The Warren Group.
Worcester County has seen a 25% drop in the number of home sales year-to-date, on par with statewide numbers. In Massachusetts, there were 3,608 homes sold in September, the lowest number since 2010.
“There are still a number of hurdles for prospective homebuyers in Massachusetts, and this is reflected in our sales data,” Cassidy Norton, Wart Group associate publisher and media relations director, said in the press release. “Low inventory, record high prices, and rising interest rates have made it progressively more difficult for buyers to purchase homes – regardless of where they’re looking.”
In the city of Worcester, the median price remained above more than 10% above 2023 levels at $406,500, up slightly from September’s median of $405,000. The number of sales year-to-date are 28% below 2022 levels.
