Worcester County home sales grow 2.6% while state drops

Single-family Worcester County home sales grew by 2.6 percent last month compared to December 2016, while statewide sales in Massachusetts fell 6.6 percent, according to Boston-based real estate tracking firm The Warren Group. 

There were 725 single-family homes sold in Worcester County in December 2017, compared to 706 from December 2016. For all of 2017, single-family homes in the county grew 2.0 percent.

Worcester County home prices are rising as well. The median sale price of a single-family last month was $260,000, compared to $246,250 in December 2016.

For the year, the median price of a home in the county was $259,000, a 5.4-percent increase from the $245,000 in 2016.

Aside from Middlesex County with 924 sales, Worcester County saw the most single-family home sales recorded last month.

Worcester County condo sales also bucked the statewide trend, increasing by 6.9 percent last month when compared to December 2016. For the year, condo sales increased by 10.5 percent. 

Condo prices rose dramatically last month, an increase of 19.5 percent from $175,000 to $217,000.

For the year, condo prices went up 6.5 percent to $199,900 from $186,950.
