Worcester County had 1,882 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, according to data from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
That daily figure marks a nearly 300% rise in cases over the past two weeks. The previous Tuesday, Dec. 28, Worcester County had 865 cases, while Dec. 21 had 485 cases.
Statewide, Massachusetts had 16,621 new cases on Tuesday.
The rise comes as the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has spiked infections worldwide.
As of Monday, 2,372 coronavirus patients were hospitalized across Massachusetts, with 441 patients in intensive care units, and 262 intubated.
The seven-day weighted average, or positivity rate, among testing statewide was 21.62%, according to figures last updated on Monday, figures not reached since late April 2020, per DPH data.
