Worcester County coronavirus deaths exceed 800 on Wednesday

Worcester County reported the lowest increase in coronavirus cases since March, with 27, while total deaths exceeded the 800 threshold, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Recent low numbers of new cases in the county bring the total since the pandemic began to 11,465. Statewide, there were 429 new probable and confirmed cases to bring the total to 101,592.

The 14 new deaths in Worcester County add to the total tally of 804. Statewide, the total of probable and confirmed deaths increased to 7,152 overall.

DPH also reported on Wednesday another 9,211 newly administered coronavirus tests Wednesday.

The City of Worcester reported 44 new cases Wednesday, bringing its total to 4,259.

UMass Memorial Health Care and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester report 144 cases Wednesday and 48 in intensive care. Between the hospitals, there have been 292 fatalities to date, and 339 employees have tested positive for the coronavirus.

MetroWest Medical Center in Natick and Framingham reports 33 suspected or confirmed cases, and Milford Regional Medical Center reports 11, according to DPH. In total, the hospitals have 12 suspected or confirmed cases in intensive care. Harrington Hospital, Heywood Hospital, and HealthAlliance in Leominster report 29 suspected or confirmed cases, and 10 in the ICU.

Nationally, there have been reported more than 1.8 million cases and close to 107,000 deaths according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, there are close to 6.5 million cases, and 382,451 fatalities.
