Worcester County coronavirus death toll rises to 888 on Wednesday

Worcester County had a reported 18 new coronavirus cases and 11 fatalities on Wednesday, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
The new cases in Worcester County bring the total to 12,032 since the pandemic began. Statewide cases increased to 106,159 with 266 new probable and confirmed cases on Wednesday. Of those, there were 180 confirmed and 86 probable cases throughout the state.
Total coronavirus-related fatalities increased to 888 in Worcester County with the new deaths Wednesday. Throughout Massachusetts there were 69 confirmed and probable deaths increasing the total to 7,734. Of those, there were 60 confirmed and nine probable coronavirus fatalities.
As of June 11, the city of Worcester has had a reported 5,068 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. A weekly update is scheduled for late Thursday afternoon.
UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester reported 40 inpatients with coronavirus and 17 in intensive care, and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester reported 22 inpatients with five in the ICU.

MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Natick reported 22 suspected and confirmed cases and Miford Regional Medical Center reported 17. In total, the hospitals have five suspected or confirmed cases in the ICU. Heywood Hospital in Gardner and HealthAlliance in Leominster reported 23 total suspected and confirmed cases and three in intensive care.
Nationally, there have been more than 2.1 million cases and 117,717 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, there have been more than 8.3 million cases and 448,504 fatalities.
