Worcester County coronavirus cases rise 110 to hit 3,179 Monday

Confirmed coronavirus cases in Worcester County rose by another 110 Monday to hit 3,179, according to new Massachusetts Department of Public Health data.

Worcester County also had another three deaths to bring the tally to 117. Statewide, deaths rose by 103 to hit 1,809.
Total cases statewide rose by 1,566 or 4% to 39,643.

The City of Worcester reported 1,199 total cases Monday, a one-day increase of 28, or 2%. The city had 715 cases a week ago.

Saint Vincent Hospital and UMass Memorial Health Care had 226 total inpatient coronavirus cases, including 96 in intensive care. The two hospital facilities have had 60 total coronavirus deaths, and 126 of their employees have tested positive for the virus.

The DCU Center has 13 patients as of Monday, plus 46 homeless residents who've tested positive. Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester, which is being used for coronavirus patients, has 61 patients, according to the city.

The homeless shelter at Worcester Technical High School has been closed and clients have been moved to the DCU Center. A deep cleaning of the facility is planned for Wednesday.

Across the United States, cases now total nearly 777,000 with more than 40,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. That total comes to nearly one-third of all worldwide cases and nearly quadruples the next-highest nation, Spain. Worldwide cases have nearly hit 2.5 million with 169,000 deaths.
