Worcester company, father & son sentenced for illegal waste facilities

A father and son from Charlton have been sentenced to three years of probation for operating illegal solid and hazardous waste facilities in Worcester and Oxford, Attorney General Maura Healey announced.
Ronald Bussiere, 69, and Curt Bussiere, 45, both pleaded guilty last month to four charges of operating/maintaining a solid waste facility without approvals, improperly handling a solid waste, and maintaining a hazardous waste facility without a required state license.
The elder Bussiere and his company Patriots Environmental also pleaded guilty to two charges each of criminal contempt.
The state’s Environmental Crimes Strike Force began investigating the company in 2013 after allegations of various environmental violations at the company’s Worcester and Oxford facilities.
The company did not have required state approvals when the firm allowed asbestos-containing waste to be stored at the Worcester facility, and both facilities had construction and demolition waste stored.
Hazardous waste oil was also stored in Oxford without a required license.
At the time of the violations, the company and its president, Ronald Bussiere, were under a 2006 Suffolk Superior Court order disallowing them from bringing construction and demolition debris to the Worcester facility without written approval from state regulators.
