Worcester Common ice rink to reopen for the season

The Worcester Common Oval Ice-Skating Rink is set to reopen for the season at 5 p.m. Friday, according to a Monday press release from the DCU Center.

The 12,000-square-foot-rink, which is located behind City Hall, is larger than the ice rink at the Rockefeller Center in New York City, and includes skate rentals, concessions, and other amenities.

The rink is operated by a private-public partnership including Los Angeles-based ASM Global, which runs the DCU Center, the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Digital Federal Credit Union of Marlborough, and the Worcester Railers Hockey Club.

The grand reopening will be celebrated with a special tree lighting commemoration on Dec. 3. Other upcoming events include a Chanukah on Ice celebration on Nov. 28, a screening of “Christmas on Ice” on Dec. 10, and a mid-December appearance by the Harlem Globetrotters.

Admissions are $5.
