On Tuesday, the Worcester City Council will discuss a contract for Acting City Manager Eric Batista, suggesting a salary of $225,000.
Batista was officially named acting city manager in April, thanks to a unanimous vote by City Council. He will fill in for City Manager Edward Augustus, who will leave his position on May 31.
As acting city manager, Batista assumes all the responsibilities Augustus had until the council chooses a permanent city manager.
An order filed by Mayor Joe Petty recommends an annual salary of $225,000 for Batista. Augustus made $283,594 in 2021, which was his seventh year as city manager, according to employee earnings data from the city. Batista’s proposed salary would mark a roughly $50,000 annual raise, as his assistant city manager salary was $175,000, according to Petty’s filing.
If Batista is not appointed as permanent city manager, he will be entitled to a severance package. The package would continue salary payment for four months after severance, or until Batista finds other employment. Alternatively, Batista would have the option to return to his assistant city manager position at $175,000 annual pay.
