The Women’s Information Network has a new name and a new mission.
Launched more than 25 years ago by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, WIN was founded to support women in the workplace.
Today, the retooled initiative has been dubbed Power of Women, or POW, in hopes of attracting women entering the workplace who have had a different experience. Under its new format, POW will look to expand mentorship opportunities for diverse, multigenerational groups of women at various stages in their careers, the chamber said in an announcement Wednesday.
Connecting, educating, and empowering professional women in the workplace and the community is at the heart of the reconfigured program, said Sharyn Williams, the chamber’s vice president of marketing, communications, programs, and events.
Starting next month through November, four quarterly POW luncheons will be hosted by the chamber at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. Similar to previous WIN programming, these luncheons will feature high-level speakers discussing topics important to working women.
During the in-between months, three POW meetups will take place. The sessions will range from facilitated discussions and networking to community service events.
The content of these meetings is expected to reflect the diversity and expertise among female leaders of the Greater Worcester business community.
POW also pledged to complement the chamber’s annual Worcester Women’s Leadership Conference, scheduled for May 7, and provides a year-long opportunity to continue the work of empowering women.
Annual membership is $125. The first event is set for Feb. 18 with Irene Brank as the keynote speaker. Brank specializes in transgender education, consultation, transition at work consultation, and leading gender transitions in the workplace.
