An anonymous donor granted the nonprofit Worcester Chamber Music Society $1 million over five years to expand its youth education program, Neighborhood Strings.
Neighborhood Strings is a five-day-a-week program which teaches musical skills to youth in Worcester's Downtown and Main South areas, according to an Oct. 24 press release from Worcester Chamber Music Society.
“Part of what feels great about this award is the honor of having our work acknowledged and appreciated by someone outside of our community,” Worcester Chamber Music Society Executive Director Tracy Kraus said in the press release. “It is transformative and will allow us to create expanded opportunities for more youth in Worcester's underserved neighborhoods to join our musical community and reap the well-documented benefits of intensive music education."
The Worcester Chamber Music Society reported $549,582 in revenue and $454,957 in assets in 2022, according to nonprofit data firm GuideStar by Candid. The organization’s revenue jumped by more than 50% between 2021 and 2022.
