The chamber, which was instrumental in courting the Pawtucket Red Sox to Worcester, joins previously announced sponsors like Polar Beverages, Atlas Distributing, Table Talk Pies as the ballclub’s first business partners.
The team is moving to Worcester for the start of the 2021 baseball season. The team will play in a $101-million stadium to be built by the city, with the team paying a total of $36 million of those costs over a 30-year lease.
An official team name has not yet been announced.
In a statement to WBJ, chamber President and CEO Timothy Murray said the business advocacy group is joining the 21 Club, a term coined by team President Charles Steinberg to identify the club’s founding sponsors.
“Entry into the 21 Club ... is indicative of the chamber’s commitment to further economic development in the city of Worcester,” Murray said.
Other sponsors include Wormtown Brewery, MGM Springfield, Fallon Health, Hanover Insurance Group, The Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Mercantile Center and Assumption College.
