On Wednesday, employees of the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center held a rally that they hoped will push the nonprofit's administration towards allowing them to unionize.
The rally took place at the Edward M. Kennedy Medical Department in Worcester, and roughly 25 workers representing approximately 200 marched to the organization’s administrative offices. Employees were joined by workers from 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East as well as Worcester city councilors Khrystian King, Candy Mero-Carlson and Sarai Rivera.
The workers in the march demanded that approximately 200 of the organization’s 400 employees gain the right to unionize. The potential union members would primarily include medical assistants, according to a 1199SEIU spokesperson. The Kennedy CHC has 14 locations. Representatives from the Kennedy CHC could not be reached for comment prior to publication.
