Bagel Time, a family-owned Worcester breakfast and lunch spot that operated out of a location on Park Avenue, appears set to move to the former Pleasant Street location of a fur clothing store.
A change-of-use permit was issued on Nov. 16 for 500 Pleasant St., the former home of Furs by Michael. The permit allowed the use of the property to be changed from retail to a bakery/coffee shop, according to the City of Worcester website. The cost of renovating the building is expected to be $120,000, according to the permit details.
The permit was issued to 500 Pleasant Street LLC, a corporation managed by Marieta and Cristian Zaruha, according to Secretary of the Commonwealth records. Marieta and Cristian are the co-owners of Bagel Time, which they acquired in 2011, according to the shop’s website. Bagel Time formerly operated out of a location at 194 Park Ave.
500 Pleasant Street LLC purchased the property in March for $660,000 from former owners Edward and Merle Jellson, according to City of Worcester property records. Built in 1952, the building contains 3,564 square feet of usable space and was given a tax assessment value of $346,100 in 2023.
Marieta Zaruha declined to comment on the move when contacted via email by WBJ.
