Worcester attorneys nominated for Family Court judgeships
Charlie Baker on Wednesday tapped two Worcester attorneys for Probate and Family Court judgeships.
If confirmed as circuit associate justices, Jennifer Melia and Roxann Tetreau will preside over cases involving families and children, including divorce, paternity, child support, custody, adoption, wills and estates.
A solo practitioner focused on family and probate law, Melia served as a probation officer in the Worcester Probate and Family Court Probation Department from 1996 through 2007 and previously was a social worker and investigator in the Fitchburg and Framingham offices of the Department of Children and Families, according to Baker's office. She holds a bachelor's in psychology from the University of Connecticut, a master's in criminal justice from Ana Maria College and a J.D. from New England School of Law.
Tetreau, a Dudley resident, is a partner at the law firm Eden Rafferty. She began her career as an insurance claims adjuster, and after graduating Suffolk University Law School in 1999 focused on personal injury litigation and worked as a bar advocate representing indigent clients in Worcester County.
The Governor's Council plans to hold a nomination hearing for Melia on Nov. 21 at 9 a.m., with a 10:30 a.m. hearing that same day on Tetreau.
Filling in for Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito as she takes some time off, Baker chaired Wednesday's council meeting where the hearing dates were set for his new nominees.
The council also scheduled Nov. 28 hearings for two Baker nominees to the Land Court, Jennifer Roberts and Diane Rubin. Roberts' hearing was set for 10:30 a.m., with Rubin's afterwards at 12:30 p.m.
"That was fun," Baker said, as the roughly seven-minute meeting wrapped up.
