Worcester Art Museum Names New Director

Matthias Waschek, executive director of the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts in St. Louis, has been appointed the new director of the Worcester Art Museum.

Waschek replaces James Welu, who announced a year ago he would become director emeritus.

Waschek spent eight years at the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, where he doubled its annual operating budget and curated exhibits featuring loans from international collections. He’s also a former director of academic programs at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.

He will take over at the 115-year-old Worcester museum Nov. 16.
