The Worcester Metropolitan Statistical Area unemployment rate rose to 3.7% in June, up from 3.5% in May, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development on July 26.
The Leominster-Gardner metropolitan area’s unemployment rate one rose one tenth of a percentage point in June to 4.1%.
The Worcester and Leominster-Gardner data is in line with the unemployment rates of other MSAs in Massachusetts, most of which gained 1 or 2 tenths of a percentage point. Elsewhere in the state, the Barnstable MSA, on Cape Cod, was a notable exception, dropping 2 tenths of a percentage point as tourist season was in full swing.
