The Worcester-area unemployment rate decreased to 4 percent in March, following a statewide trend of lower unemployment and higher employment and labor force numbers.
The Worcester-Northeast Connecticut metropolitan area’s unemployment fell from the 4.3 percent reported in February, as 14,613 were unemployed in March, compared to 15,351 in February.
The area’s labor force rose to 360,920, an increase of more than 2,000 from February; and the area’s employment figures rose by about 3,000 to 346,307.
The state's unemployment rate remained at 3.5 percent in March, a six-month-long trend.
Statewide, the largest industry gains so far this year have been construction, which has gained 11,500 jobs, and leisure and hospitality, which has gained 8,800 jobs.
Last month, the manufacturing industry added 600 jobs, and the industry has gained 2,500 for the year.
