The Worcester-area unemployment rate dipped to 3.8 percent in August from the 4.2 percent in July, according to the state’s non-seasonally adjusted labor figures.
Last month’s unemployment rate for the area was also an improvement over the 4.0 rate for August 2017.
The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said Tuesday the Worcester-Connecticut Metropolitan area had a total of 290,700 people employed last month, down from the 291,100 reported in July. While the Worcester area lost 400 jobs in August, the state reported 14,100 jobs lost.
Worcester's 400-job loss is a 0.1-percent loss, one of the lowest declines in the state. The Leominster-Gardner area was virtually unchanged from month to month and the Springfield area reported a 0.3-percent increase in jobs.
Year over year, the Worcester-Connecticut area reported a 2.5-percent uptick in employment, from 283,700 to 291,100. That percent increase was the highest in the state, according to the state office.
