Construction employment fell 2 percent in the Worcester area in February compared to the same period last year, according to an analysis of jobs data by the Associated General Contractors of America.
Worcester fared better than the state as a whole, which saw construction employment fall 4 percent. One of a few areas to buck the statewide trend was the Fitchburg-Leominster area, which added 200 construction jobs year-over-year for an increase of 15 percent.
Nationwide, the construction picture started look rosier during February, with 141 out of 337 metropolitan areas recording year-over-year job gains in the sector. The strongest areas of growth was seen in the Dallas-Plano-Irving, Texas, which saw construction employment climb by 7,500 jobs or 8 percent.
