The Worcester Area Mission Society has named longtime Children’s Friend, Inc. leader Karen Ludington as its new executive director, the organization announced on Friday.
In the role, Ludington will be tasked with overseeing WAMS’ operations, leading a strategic planning initiative and developing programming.
“We are delighted to have found Karen, who has been a respected leader in our community for years,” said Rev. Linda Michel, chair of the WAMS board of directors, in a statement. “We know she will use her knowledge of the community and her positive relationships with other Worcester-area leaders to guide WAMS through the period of growth and change that we are anticipating.”
Ludington is the longtime leader of Children’s Friend, Inc., where she most recently served as vice president. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and holds a master’s degree in educational counseling from Boston University, as well as a law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston.
An active member of the community, Ludington is on the Worcester Regional Research Bureau’s board of directors, and serves on the Worcester Together community fund.
WAMS was originally founded in 1892 to help immigrants who built the Blackstone Canal. The organization is currently the mission arm of the area United Church of Christ churches.
