Worcester Area #89 For Foreclosures

When it comes to foreclosures, Greater Worcester ranks in the top 100 among the 206 metropolitan areas nationwide followed by real estate information company RealtyTrac.

In the Worcester area, 1.85 percent of housing units on the market are facing foreclosure. That's lower than the U.S. average of 2.23 percent, but higher than the rates for Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, where the number is 1.24 percent, or Springfield, where it's 1.23 percent.

The hardest-hit market was Las Vegas-Paradise, Nev., at 10.88 percent.

The total number of foreclosures in Worcester for the year was 5,864, which represents a 6.79 percent increase from 2009 but a 7.57 percent drop from 2008.
