Worcester Airport celebrates two years of JetBlue

Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito and other officials celebrated the second anniversary of JetBlue at the Worcester Regional Airport while highlighting the continued economic benefit of the airport to the region.

JetBlue service began in November 2013, with more than 230,000 passengers having flown between the airport and Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Fla. The airport continues to be an economic driver in the region, said Polito, with Massport estimating that it will generate $369 million of economic activity over the next 10 years.

JetBlue doubled its passengers using the airport during its second year of operation, according to Massport.

While celebrating JetBlue, Massport has an eye to bringing other carriers to the airport, with a CAT III Instrument Landing System installed last month expected to improve the reliability of commercial service and make the airport more attractive.
