WBJ has partnered with the Worcester Historical Museum to run a year-long trivia contest in celebration of the 300th anniversary of Worcester’s founding on June 14, 1722. Readers should email their answer to the question below by April 26 to bkane@wbjournal.com or complete the Google Form below to compete for a special year-end prize package.
The largest automobile factory in Worcester designed to build the very stately Bay State automobile is still standing at 67 Millbrook St. and is very much in use. However, it is no longer manufacturing cars and is known by most Worcester area folks by a totally different name. In addition, most Worcester residents have driven by the former motor car plant literally thousands of times, for it is clearly visible from the I-290 intersection with I-190. Although not its official name, the facility is popularly known as the old Thom McAn Building, as it was the former headquarters of the footwear company.
Trivia question: What is the official name of the building at 67 Millbrook St., the former home of both Bay State Automobile Co. and the Thom McAn shoe company?
And the answer to last edition’s question: The name of the public facility currently at Foster and Mechanic streets, where the Blake Building once stood, is the Worcester Common Garage.
