The Worcester Red Sox will host their first home game of the 2022 season at Polar Park this Tuesday, against Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley IronPigs, according to the minor league baseball schedule on MiLB’s website.
This will be the first season the WooSox will be able to have a full capacity of 9,508 attendees from opening day, as last year the team had limited capacity due to COVID restrictions for the first month of their season.
The team completed its inaugural season with an attendance average of 6,145 fans per home game, which ranked sixth among the 120 minor league baseball teams. Last year, the WooSox sold out two games at Polar Park and had seven games with more than 8,500 fans in attendance.
The team hopes to build upon those figures for its second season, Dan Rea, WooSox general manager and executive vice president, told WBJ in an interview in October.
“Our expectation is getting even stronger attendance figures,” Rea said. “I feel confident - yes. I would expect numbers that are comparable, if not better, next year.”
The WooSox will play 144 games this season, with 72 of them at Polar Park.
Don't see much of an 'increase' in attendance, based on the 'existing' concession prices.....we shall see, could be the 'interest' in the team simply is not there.
Another successful WooSox season on tap much to the chagrin of the WBJ.
