A 58-unit affordable living facility has opened in Devens to seniors 62 and up.
The development, Shirley Meadows, includes supportive services for residents to allow them to age in place, along with amenities including a large community room, bike shelter, outdoor patio and community garden.
Shirley Meadows offers 38 units to households earning no more than 60% of area median income, four units to households earning no more than 50% of area median income, and 16 units to households earning no more than 30% of area median income. It has received funding from federal, state and private sources.
The complex, at 27 Hospital Road, sits in the Shirley portion of Devens just behind Ayer-Shirley Regional Middle School.
Shirley Meadows was built by the Women’s Institute for Housing and Economic Development, a nonprofit affordable housing developer based in Boston and Hartford. The project architects were Dietz & Company Architects of Springfield and the general contractor was Allegrone Companies, which has offices in Boston and Lenox.
