Another major downtown housing project in Worcester is set to break ground this month.
WinnDevelopment, the Boston-based firm that opened the Canal Lofts in the former Chevalier Building on Water Street earlier this year, will begin work at the former Worcester Vocational Technical High School, where it plans to construct 84 apartments in the building. The project, across the street from Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Gateway Park, is estimated to cost $32.8 million, according to Elizabeth Fish, WinnDevelopment vice president.
The Worcester Business Development Corp. (WBDC) bought the property from the city in 2010 for $1.2 million. WinnDevelopment has secured financing and plans to purchase the property from WBDC in December or January, Fish said.
