The Legislature on Monday shipped a bill dealing with the re-corking of wine back to Gov. Charlie Baker's desk after agreeing with a wording change he proposed last month.
The bill (H 199) would allow patrons of taverns, clubs and war veterans' organizations to re-cork and take home an unfinished bottle of wine, a privilege already extended at restaurants, hotels and retirement communities.
After the bill was first sent to Baker's desk on Sept. 22, the governor said its language inadvertently made it "less certain which entities are granted the authorization to send patrons home with their partially consumed, resealed bottles of wine." He recommended an amendment to ensure the bill "grants the intended authorization."
Both the House and the Senate agreed to the amendment this month and on Monday voted to send it to Baker's desk.
The bill was filed in January 2015 by Rep. Thomas Golden of Lowell, who sponsored similar legislation last session.
