A sports equipment manufacturer and an engineering firm plan to set up shop at a business park being created in Winchendon, creating as many as 60 jobs, according to Town Manager James Kreidler.
Kreidler said Mylec Sports Inc., which is headquartered in town, will build a 45,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility at the site, located off Route 140. The company will employee 30 people right away and add 15 more jobs within a few years, he said.
The town manager said Sage Engineering LLC of Westfield also plans to build a 20,000-square-foot building at the park, establishing their first location in Central Massachusetts and making space for their land use engineers. Sage will bring about 15 jobs to the site, he said.
Kreidler said the town and businesses are still finalizing the details of their plans and working with National Grid to nail down the power supply for the park.
The 182-acre business park is a creation of the Winchendon Redevelopment Authority, and its land is owned partly by the authority and partly by private parties. The authority is now seeking approval from the town planning board to subdivide the land into marketable lots.
It is also asking for state assistance in building a road through the park. According to Grants Administrator Gerald White, the road will cost about $380,000. The town wants a $250,000 state grant to support the project, and the rest of the money would come from private investments, he said.
White said he hopes the road will be at least partially completed by the fall.
