Whitinsville-based Koopman Lumber opens first Cape Cod location

Family-owned Koopman Lumber has opened its 12th location in Dennis, its first on Cape Cod.

The location includes an 8,759-square-foot store, a 9,030-square-foot drive-through lumber yard, and two warehouses totaling 4,759 square feet, according to a Thursday press release.

The company announced the expansion in January.

“We have spent months renovating the former Antiques Center of Cape Cod property and can’t wait to welcome customers and meet more of our neighbors in Dennis and across the Cape,” Koopman Lumber COO Tony Brookhouse said in the press release. “We love to be part of communities that embrace independent family businesses. The Cape isn’t historically a commercial market, so we were excited when the opportunity presented itself to bring our family business to your community.”

Founded by Peter T. Koopman in 1939, Koopman is now co-owned by its third generation: Dirk Koopman, CEO; his sister, Denise Brookhouse, CFO; and her husband, Tony Brookhouse, COO. Dirk’s son, Peter Koopman, and his daughter, Sarah Thomas, have key roles within the organization as part of the fourth generation of the Koopman family, according to the press release.
