White City Renovations To Start Next Week

The company that bought the White City Shopping Center in Shrewsbury late last year reports that a major renovation project to the plaza will begin next week.

Connecticut-based Charter Realty & Development Corp., which purchased the 255,000-square-foot plaza late last year for $56 million, plans to make the area more pedestrian-friendly by adding sidewalks, walkways between buildings, benches and a signaled crosswalk over South Quinsigamond Avenue, which splits the middle of the plaza.

Charter Realty also plans to reconfigure and make improvement's to some of the plaza's 1,600 parking spaces. The renovations are expected to take two years and will cost more than $10 million.
