What Recession?

There is some good economic news out there, particularly when it comes to Massachusetts. Moody's Economy.com shows that the Bay State is one of eight states that are expanding this year, compared to 27 states that are in recession right now, according to the web site's founder, Mark Zandi.

He said that in March, only five states were in recession. Maryland, Massachusetts and New Hampshire are all still growing due to health care and educational services. Also expanding are Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Alaska.

Maine and Rhode Island are already in recession, according to Economy.com, while Vermont, Connecticut and New York are at risk.

Zandi pointed to an eroded job mark and weaker industrial production as the biggest factors affecting states in recession, which were also affected by weak retail sales.
