Westborough Firm To Save Capitol Hill $67M

Westborough-based NORESCO will install $34 million worth of energy efficient upgrades to congressional offices in Washington, D.C. that will create an estimated $67 million in savings over several years.

NORESCO, which is owned by Connecticut-based Carrier Corp., will install 33,000 new light fixtures as well as better performing heating, ventilation and air conditioning units. New, low-flow water fixtures, faucets and showerheads will also be installed as part of the contract.

The work will be done on the U.S. House of Representatives' Rayburn, Cannon, and Ford office buildings, which are adjacent to the U.S. Capitol building.

The Cannon office building will even get a new "green roof" which will better insulate the building and allow for better stormwater management.

The Office of the Architect of the Capitol awarded the energy savings performance contract to NORESCO, which is expected to reduce energy usage in the buildings by 23 percent.

Correction: This article originally reported that the savings produced through NORESCO's upgrades would save $67 million annually. In fact, the upgrades will produce those savings over the project term, which is a multi-year period.
