Westborough Firm To Power NASA Robot

Westborough-based Boston-Power Inc. said its "Swing" lithium-ion batteries will be used in a proposed NASA project that seeks to put a robot on the moon.

The robot is a "humanoid," and is part of NASA's "Project M," which signifies its desire to put the machine on the moon in 1,000 days.

If all goes as planned, Boston-Power's batters will provide power for the robot, which was designed by NASA and General Motors to work alongside human astronauts in dangerous environments and on repetitious tasks.

Boston-Power is providing the project with batteries and an integrated battery management system. The system is designed to operate for long periods of time, in a wide range of temperatures.
