Westborough display technology company Kopin Corp. announced on Tuesday its Pancake optics were being utilized in MaganeX virtual reality glasses.

Designed by Japan-headquartered Shiftall Inc., a fully owned subsidiary of Panasonic Corp., MaganeX glasses are known for their lightweight and highly mobile form made possible by Kopin’s 1.3-inch displays and slim Pancake optics, according to the press release.

Kopin's all-plastic Pancake optics are the first of its kind. The device provides a large field of view, per the announcement.

"It is necessary for VR glasses to be lightweight and comfortable to wear as well as deliver life-like images in order to be widely accepted to consumers," said Takuma Iwasa, CEO of Shiftall, in the press release.

MaganeX glasses made their debut during a Thursday presentation at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.
