Westborough buys 66-acre conservation site for $2.3M from Despres family

The Town of Westborough has closed on a $2.3-million purchase of 66 acres of conservation and recreation land off Eli Whitney Street.

The deal, which was approved by a Special Town Meeting vote in September, closed Oct. 20.

The town’s purchase, from the Despres family, is planned to give the public 66 acres of wooded land, with five acres dedicated to parking and trailheads.

The site at 31-33 Eli Whitney St. stands roughly across from Sands Elementary School south of the town center.
