A Mexican restaurant inside the Natick Mall’s Wegmans grocery store — one of a few features differentiating the location from others in the chain — has closed.
Wegmans said it is evaluating how to use the space next after Blue Dalia Restaurant & Tequila Bar closed Dec. 7.
“Despite the success of our Natick store, Blue Dalia did not consistently meet our projections. The reason, in large part, was that it competed with our own in-store restaurant food options, like the Burger Bar, Sushi, Pizza and much more,” Wegmans said in a statement. “Our Blue Dalia employees have been offered opportunities at Wegmans.”
Blue Dalia was one of three full-service restaurants at the location, along with The Burger Bar and Buzz Coffee Shop, which is the chain’s first to serve alcoholic coffee drinks. Blue Dalia was Wegmans’ first full-service Mexican restaurant, and the store was the first for the New York company to be located inside a shopping mall, as well as the first to have two full stories.
The 146,500-square-foot Wegmans opened in the spring of 2018 at the former JCPenney space.
Wegmans, which opened its first Massachusetts location at Northborough Crossing, has 101 stores throughout the East Coast.
