Webster First Federal Credit Union has promoted long-term employee John Cournoyer to chief marketing officer, an inaugural role for the Worcester-based financial institution.
Cournoyer most recently served as Webster First’s vice president of marketing, where he oversaw brand development, advertising, and market research strategies, according to a Wednesday press release from the credit union. Having originally joined Webster First as a part-time intern in 2006, Cournoyer left the credit union briefly, returning to begin his full-time career in 2008 as marketing coordinator.
Throughout his tenure with Webster First, Cournoyer has helped the credit union through seven mergers including those of Saugus Federal Credit Union in 2011, Industrial Credit Union in 2015, and Cambridge Teachers Federal Credit Union in 2024, according to the release. This year, he was appointed chairperson of the Webster First Strategic Development Committee.
“John has been an instrumental part of building Webster First’s brand across its digital platforms and the members we serve,” John Thomasian, Webster First president and CEO, said in the release. “His exceptional leadership skills, dedication, and strategic vision have played a significant role in the credit union’s growth. I am confident that John will continue to build momentum and accelerate our overall mission.”
Cournoyer earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from Worcester State University.
With $1.48 billion in assets, Webster First is the fourth largest credit union in Central Massachusetts when ranked by assets as of March 31, according to data provided to WBJ’s Research Department. In 2023, the credit union generated $14.76 million in net income and had 91,285 members.
